Watauga County Transfer Station
Disposition of Materials
Only bagged household trash is to be deposited into the dumpsters at the Convenience Center Sites. All other materials must be transported to the Sanitation Department. These materials must be weighted at the scale house before disposing of them in our facility.
Watauga County Transfer Station accepts all types of materials EXCEPT the following:
- Liquids, including paints, large quantities of oil, and insecticides.
- Hazardous Waste
- Toxic Waste
- Gas Tanks
Materials brought to the landfill must be divided into different categories as follows:
ANIMAL CARCASSES - $ 59.00/ton
The Watauga County Transfer Station accepts animal carcasses for burial. Please notify the staff when you are disposing of carcasses so necessary procedures can be followed. Carcasses are charged by weight.
ELECTRONICS – $59.00/ton
Recycling facility accepts computers, TV’s, keyboards, fax machines, printers, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, etc.
INERT DEBRIS – $ 59.00/ton
Brick, block, masonry, uncontaminated dirt, weeds, asphalt, concrete or cement.
LAND-CLEARING DEBRIS/YARD WASTE – $ 59.00/ton
All brush; any wood which complies with the following: untreated, unpainted, unstained, unvarnished, not particle board or plywood; grass, leaves, (not to be left in bags); pallets.
These items can contain nails; they must not contain chemicals.
METAL/WHITE GOODS – NO CHARGE
Non-food related scrap metal, including sheet metal, lawn mowers, major appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, dishwashers, and freezers), bicycles, empty water tanks (must have a hole at least 12 inches in diameter cut in one end).
Metal banding, fence materials, and wire do not go in the metal pile.
MULCH – FREE FOR WATAUGA COUNTY RESIDENTS
BUSINESSES - Coarse ground mulch-$6.00/cubic yard Re-ground mulch – $9.00/cubic yard
SOLID WASTE – $ 59.00/ton
All materials not included in the above categories (except, of course, for the items we do not accept at all) are considered solid waste.
TIRES – no charge
Tires and passenger tires dismounted, and must be neatly stacked in the trailer provided for their disposal.
