    Watauga County Offices will be closed in Observance of Good Friday on Friday, April 10, 2020.

     

    County Offices will re-open as regularly scheduled on Monday, April 13, 2020.

  • 02/28/2020 - NCDOT Public Comment Period for 2023-2032 STIP

    Public Comment Period Open for Next STIP

     

    Area residents have a chance to provide input on what transportation projects they would like to see included in the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s 10-Year transportation plan for 2023-2032. 

     

    A statewide 30-day public comment period to submit project ideas will be held from Jan. 27 to Feb. 28. In addition, there will be a three-day open house held at NCDOT Division 11 headquarters at 801 Statesville Road in North Wilkesboro for in-person input about potential projects in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.

     

    Interested residents can attend the open house during regular business hours on Jan. 28-30 to get a chance to submit project ideas and talk with NCDOT staff. Residents who can’t make the open house can still be part of the process by contacting Sean Sizemore, of the Division 11 office at sbsizemore@ncdot.gov, NCDOT Division 11, 801 Statesville Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659; or (336) 903-9113 during the 30-day comment period.

  • Seeking Economic Development Commission Volunteers

    The Watauga County Economic Development Commission (EDC) is looking for volunteers to serve on its Board.  The EDC’s Mission Statement is as follows:

     

    "The mission of the Watauga County Economic Development Commission is to promote the development of business that is compatible with existing resources and assets of Watauga County and to encourage the creation of wealth and jobs providing wages, benefits and working conditions that will contribute to a higher standard of living."

     

    If interested in serving on the EDC Board or other Boards and Commissions please fill out a volunteer application and turn it in to the Watauga County Manager’s Office.  Information regarding Boards and Commissions and the volunteer application can be found by clicking HERE.

  • 03/06/2020 - Juvenile Crime Prevention Council RFP

    The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) has studied the risk factors and needs of Juvenile Court involved youth in this county and hereby publishes a Request for Proposals.  The JCPC anticipates funds from the NC Department of Public Safety, Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Community Programs section in the amount of $139,176 to fund programs to serve delinquent and at-risk youth for the state fiscal year 2020-2021 beginning on, or after, July 1, 2020.  The use of these funds requires a local match of 30%.   • 03/03/2020 - Resolution to Lease County Property - 1

     

    Resolution of Watauga County Board of County Commissioners

     

    Pursuant to NCGS 160A-272, notice is hereby given that at the regular commissioner meeting of the Watauga County Board of County Commissioners on February 4, 2020, the Watauga County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution which authorized Deron T. Geouque, County Manager, of Watauga County to lease to the Watauga County Arts Council that certain building known as the Old New River Building (the "Leased Premises") located at 377 Shadowline Drive, Boone, NC 28607 (the "Property") in Watauga County, North Carolina, and being approximately 0.537 acres of property, for a term of four (4) years, with automatic ninety (90) day renewals unless either Watauga County or the Watauga County Arts Council gives written notice no less than sixty (60) days that the other party intends not to renew the Lease Agreement.  The rent to be paid by the Watauga County Arts Council to Watauga County during the term of the lease is One Dollar ($1.00) per annum.  The lease shall become effective ten (10) days after the publication of this notice and formal adoption of the lease by the Board of Commissioners.

    Resolution of Watauga County Board of County Commissioners

     

    Pursuant to NCGS 160A-272, notice is hereby given that at the regular commissioner meeting of the Watauga County Board of County Commissioners on February 4, 2020, the Watauga County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution which authorized Deron T. Geouque, County Manager, of Watauga County to lease to the American National Red Cross that certain office space in the building known as the Health Department Building (the "Leased Premises") located at 126 Poplar Grove Ext., Suite 202, Boone, NC 28607 (the "Property") in Watauga County, North Carolina, and being approximately 90 square feet of office space, for a term of eight (8) years, unless either Watauga County or the American National Red Cross gives written notice no less than thirty (30) days that the other party intends to terminate the lease early.  The rent to be paid by the American National Red Cross to Watauga County during the term of the lease is One Dollar ($1.00) per annum.  The lease shall become effective ten (10) days after the publication of this notice and formal adoption of the lease by the Board of Commissioners.

  • 03/03/2020 - Meeting Cancellation Notice

    The Watauga County Board of Commissioners’ Board Room serves as an official voting place on Election Day.  Due to the date of the primary election, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2020, has been cancelled.

     

    Therefore, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners will hold only one regular meeting in March which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2020, beginning at 5:30 P.M. in the Commissioners’ Board Room in the Watauga County Administration Building located at 814 West King Street, Boone, North Carolina.  For information or questions, please call (828) 265-8000.
